Montauk Station is the end of the line on the east end of the LIRR’s Montauk Branch, located at Edgemere St. & Fort Pond Rd. in Montauk, Suffolk County—about 115 miles from Long Island City. This elevated station with an island platform is the newest, constructed in 2000–2001 for two of the seven tracks, while the rest of the five tracks are used as a storage yard. Next-door is a lovely historic depot house, established in 1942, that has been kept as the Depot Art Gallery and the old low-level platform remains, a relic of former design.
The amenities include free parking, bike racks, ADA accessibility through a ramp and tactile strips, an ticket machines, and the ticket office is open on the busiest summer weekends. Montauk is served by diesel-powered express trains, known as “Cannonball” services, particularly on summer Fridays and Sundays, with more weekday service from May 19 through September.
